This year has been a time of uncertainty and change causing hardships for some, and loneliness for others. Although no one could have ever predicted the outcome of 2020, one thing has remained absolutely certain: that friendships and families are what grounds us through thick and thin. If I have learned anything from my experiences this year, is that I am eternally grateful for the people in my life. We stick together, support one another, we grow stronger from adversity, and we gain new perspectives into people internal worlds causing greater bonds than ever before. So, this year my absolute theme with our Thanksgiving for our close friend group, was to celebrate over a meal and show my gratitude in a safe, backyard environment.
When I search for Thanksgiving table inspiration, it’s very common to see the fun Turkey cut-out plates and acorns with candy corn give-aways. I wanted to create something that felt elegant but warm, classy but comforting, and overall, unique. The newest trend that has been prevalent in South Florida weddings has been the use of Grass and Wheats for a neutral, soft color that flows beautifully in the wind. Our floral designer and calligrapher, Halls of Ivy, created stunning centerpieces that incorporated our fall colors of burgundy and wheat as well as introducing some very unique foliage called sprayed tree fern which looks like a type of burgundy grass. The beauties holding together the arrangements are button mums, and are accented with berries.
Speaking of our flowers, Halls of Ivy created mini bundles for the place setting garnish tied with a velvet burgundy ribbon. To accompany that, she sourced a special paper for the ivory and gold place cards that has wildflower seeds inside, so you can actually plant your place card afterwards. Talk about a thankful harvest!
To set the mood, we used Simple Rustic's hand-made farm tables with their wooden cross-back chairs. Natural wood creates a down to earth, and warm environment for guests, not to mention sturdy and a lovely texture. To add to the overall texture of the table, Halls of Ivy provided velvet burgundy runners down the center accented with candles, and to pair nicely with our velvet theme, nothing compares to Nuage Designs Velluto collection. We opted for their Oatmeal Velluto napkins to drape between the charger and dinner plate to create a soft and elegant feel.
Thanksgiving isn’t just all about the food and company, at a gorgeous dinner party it’s also about what you eat it on. Different Look happened to have a stunning Florence Cream charger plate that tied in our soft oatmeals and wheat colors but also have gold leaves along the rim. The Bella dinner plate collection were have a creamy ivory color with solid gold rims, and the flatware to match is their stunning Troy collection. For our glassware, nothing says comforting and rustic like drinking mead from a glass goblet. Overall it was a perfect combination for the look we were going for.
Memories shared together are what makes these moments come to life. Our photographer, Chelsea Erwin Photography, captured our detail shots and the event. Her eye for detail, for capturing unique moments, and the soul that is behind her art was an incredible way to incapsulate this warm and color rich theme.
We all hope that you enjoy every moment of your Thanksgiving this year, whether that be in person, Face-Timing, or just long calls with with your loved ones. Just remember that we’re all in this together, and that a loving community can help you get through anything.
